Do you have thinning hair? Or even thick hair that is just not looking like it has as much volume as before? Thickening hair products are an excellent way to help out with making thin or thick hair look volumized. It is great when you find two products that volumize your hair. Even better when you find one of those products as a possible lower-priced “dupe” for the other.
I know that quite a few women suffer from hair loss as they are getting older. Some choose wigs. That is a great alternative. I am not sure that I will ever choose that option. But it is there if I do. For now, I am just working with thickening hair products.
Fortunately for me, a hairstylist recommended a great product to my sister.
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray
That product was Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray. I have used this product for a number of years. Every time I have used it, I have loved how it thickens up my hair with ease. It is simple to use. Spray it on wet hair around the roots and blow-dry. Your hair will look much thicker than it did before you put it in.
This product doesn’t have an overwhelming smell. So, it doesn’t compete with your other hair products for dominance in the perfume category. (I don’t like the Ouai Volume Spray for that reason).
The ingredients in the Bumble and Bumble thickening hairspray are:
Water\Aqua\Eau, Alcohol Denat., Isopropanol, Vp/Va Copolymer,
Polyquaternium-11, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, PEG-75 Lanolin, Polysorbate 80, Fragrance (Parfum), Eugenol, Limonene.
I tried and tried to find something that was like this product at a different price point. I never like the price tag. Mostly because I spray quite a bit of it on my hair. I have to make sure that I get to most of the layers. In doing so, I can use it up fairly quickly. I have tried so many products out there, that promised the same results. Most just didn’t deliver. Trust me, I have been searching for years and years. I kept going back to this one. Bumble and Bumble thickening hairspray – $30.00 for 8oz of this product.
“Dupe” for Bumble and Bumble
Kristin Ess Instant Lift Thickening Spray
I have found it! That product that rivals Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray.
Kristin Ess Instant Lift Thickening Spray, it acts so much like the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray. I am amazed at how close these products are in terms of the volume, no sticky residue and don’t smell like overwhelming perfume.
I have tried one product on one side of my hair and the other on the other side. There is no difference.
There is a difference in price, however, 8.45 oz for $14.00 at Target. More than half the price for an excellent product. Yes. This is what I have been looking for all of these years.
The packaging is elegant for most hair products. It is sleek and sturdy. I would travel with this product and not worry about it leaking or breaking unless it was mistreated. I think it has even better packaging than the more expensive product.
It has a fine mist just like the other hair product (which is very important).
Now, for the ingredients:
Alcohol Denat., Water, Vp/Va Copolymer, Isopropyl Alcohol,
Fragrance, Polysorbate 20, Algin, Carrageenan, Chitosan, Coco-Glucoside, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Cetearamidoethyldiethonium Succinoyl Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Hypnea Musciformis Extract, Sargassum Filipendula Extract, Gelidiella Acerosa Extract, Cetrimonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-11, Ppg-12-Peg-65 Lanolin Oil, Xanthan Gum, C11-15 Pareth-7, C12-16 Pareth-9, Trideceth-12, Glycerin, Trimethylsiloxyamodimethicone, Sorbitol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride.
The first four ingredients are the same ingredients in both products. They both also have Hydrolyzed proteins in their formulas, different kinds, but they are there. Lanolin is used in both formulas and it is used to add softness and shine.
The first product has fewer ingredients than the second. But I don’t see where it makes a difference in performance.
Thickening hair products or Thickening Spray(s) can have great results on the hair, but getting those results at a lower price is always better. If you like the Bumble and Bumble product but don’t want to continue to pay the price. I would definitely try the Kristin Ess Product and let me know what you think.
