Moisturizing Face Cleansers

As the weather starts to change, my skin can feel the dry air. I turn on the heat in my house and my skin gets even drier. Moisture in the skin is essential for keeping the skin looking plump and younger.

That is why it is so important to choose a moisturizing face cleanser. Not only to remove makeup, dirt, grime, and sunscreen. Also, one that will cleanse the skin without drying it out and keep a healthy ph balance for the skin.

Foaming face cleansers are not the best in this climate even if you have oily skin. They rob the skin of too many essential skin oils and moisture. Removing those protectants from the skin can cause more problems. By disrupting the water or skin barrier, you leave it open for acne and irritation.

You may think that less oily skin is what you are trying to achieve but it really isn’t. You are aiming for healthy skin. A gentle, moisturizing cleanser is still your best bet for obtaining healthy skin. I would suggest you read both of my posts on niacinamide to help level out the oil production in your skin if that is a problem for you.

Dry feeling skin after cleansing

I know they say if your skin feels dry after washing your face, your cleanser is too harsh for your skin. It is possible, but it is also possible that the ph factor dropped too low for the condition of your skin. If you use a toner or give it a few minutes to balance out, it should feel normal. If it doesn’t and it feels dry, you need a different cleanser.

Maturing skin can get dry quite easily. Moisture levels in the body drop as we age. This is due to a number of factors and it is normal. You can never prevent it from happening, but it is easier to manage with the right products.

Moisturizing Face Cleansers

Moisturizing Face Cleanser can be used year-round to keep your skin at a healthy level.

Here are some moisturizing cleansers in a variety of price ranges. Don’t put all of your money into a cleanser. Pick a good one within a price range that you can afford at all times. (It is true that you are going to rinse most of the cleanser down the drain). A cleanser should also have ingredients worth your money and be beneficial to your skin.

Shea Moisture Transforming Clay to Cream Cleanser

Let’s start with one of my favorites, Shea Moisture Clay to Cream Cleanser. This cleanser is one of my favorites for the “clean” ingredients like Matcha green tea, probiotics, kaolin clay, bentonite clay, and aloe. It doesn’t contain sulfates, parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol or mineral oil. Shea Moisture products are certified organic and cruelty-free. This cleanser has never stripped my skin of any moisture or oils. It does contain fragrance, essential oils at the end of the ingredients list. I don’t love that part, but if you have to have fragrance, essentials oils at the end isn’t a bad trade for the other ingredients contained in this cleanser.

This one is also only $7.99 for 4oz at Target. Here is a link to my more in-depth review of this cleanser.

Moisturizing Cleanser with a lotion texture

The two that have more of a lotion texture would be The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser and First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. However, they both have very different price ranges and ingredients. You may be surprised as which one is more cost effective.

First Aid Beauty (FAB) Face Cleanser

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser has been my go to cleanser for irritated skin. It goes on like a lotion and then forms into a cleanser. If you have sensitive skin this one is an excellent choice for you.

It is ph balanced for cleansing without stripping. It contains glycerin, Allantoin, aloe, vitamin e, licorice and Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate. Allantoin is an emolliant used to treat rough, scaly and dry skin. Aloe soothes skin. Licorice brightens the skin. The Radish root in this formula is a probiotic ingredient. Probiotics are known for restoring balance.

Probiotics and natural enzymes are going to be key ingredients in new skincare products coming out this year. Shea Moisture and FAB are a head of the game.

FAB face cleanser is $21.00 for 5 oz at Ulta.

The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser

Another moisturizing cleanser with a lotion texture is The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser. It also has very simple ingredients, which is what The Ordinary is known for in the beauty industry. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, for the price, I would expect more from this product.

This cleanser is also vegan and cruelty-free

The main ingredient is Squalane, which is a great ingredient and is found naturally in our skin. It is actually an ingredient, I look for in a lot of skincare. It also contains glycerin and malic acid. Malic acid isn’t as bad as it sounds, it is actually good for sloughing off dead skin. It is at the end of the ingredient deck so there shouldn’t be any issues with sensitive skin. However, there may not be enough in it to make a difference.

This moisturizing cleanser is like FAB Face Cleanser in that it starts as a lotion and goes into a cleanser. That is the only similarity. This one goes into more of an oil cleanser. It does remove makeup and sunscreen quite quickly.

The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser is $7.90 for 1 oz at Ulta. Now let’s think about that for a moment, that would be $39.50 for 5oz. That is a pretty expensive cleanser compared to the others I have mentioned here for the ingredients that it contains.

Fresh Soy Face

This cleanser has almost a cult following and for fairly good reason. It is a gentle cleanser that does take off makeup and supposedly doesn’t damage lash extensions either. I can’t speak as to the lash extensions as I don’t have any. But as for removing makeup goes, it does a great job.

I can say I am not as impressed with the ingredients in this cleanser, as in some of the others. However, it is a moisturizing cleanser, not skincare.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser (Moisturizing cleanser)
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

This moisturizing cleanser contains glycerin, several skin-loving oils, aloe, cucumber extract and it has some soy proteins. Soy proteins brighten the skin and improve skin tone. This ingredient is near the end of the list of ingredients, which means there probably isn’t that much in it.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is $38.00 for 5.1 oz at Sephora. If you want to spend that on a cleanser, this one is good for moisturizing the skin and removing your makeup. If you don’t use the double cleanse method this could save you money for an all in one gentle cleanser.

Drunk Elephant Besteā„¢ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser has won several beauty awards. It is vegan and “clean” by Sephora’s standards. This cleanser has a jelly-like consistency and is quite runny. You only need a small amount of this cleanser. In not using as much as with other cleansers, it may save you money. It cleanses the face of makeup and sunscreen, just like the others.

It has some nice ingredients certainly more than some other cleansers. Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser is $32.00 for 5oz at Sephora. It contains glycerin and some acids that are actually moisturizing agents for the skin. This cleanser also contains Virgin marula oil which is great oil for the skin, full of antioxidants with omegas 6 and 9. Fruit extracts that are rich in antioxidants are another great addition to this cleanser.
