Facial Exfoliants

Purchasing Facial Exfoliants online

I was looking for a facial scrub(s) that would work well for exfoliation of the skin. I wanted something not too harsh. If the product had grains or beads, they needed to be very small with no jagged edges. I was also looking for something more paste like in consistency. It should be easy to find this type of facial exfoliants online. It isn’t.

Since, you really can’t start squeezing tubes and checking out their contents from sealed products (I guess, you can. But you shouldn’t), I thought looking online would be my best option.

I saw this image and thought this would be perfect. The grains looked small and it had a creamy consistency. The price was $5.00 for 5 oz, that was a great price point. Not as good as, the iconic, Apricot Facial Scrub which is around $2.00 to $4.00 for 6 oz., but that does have some bigger (and reportedly jagged edged) grains in it.

I do like this product. It is finely milled and exactly what I was shopping for online. It is a scrub with a paste consistency. I have started using this once about every week by just adding it to my cleanser. It seems to work well for me that way. It does give a glow to my skin and my skin is softer after use.

Using a scrub with your cleanser

It may seem a little odd to use a scrub in your cleanser, but I use some very hydrating cleansers in the winter and I also need some extra exfoliating in the winter too. This helps remove any dry, flaky skin without leaving the skin too dry or tight after rinsing the product. Exfoliating the skin is important but so is hydration to maturing skin and this does both. Bonus: it doesn’t take any more time this way.

More Shopping for facial exfoliants

I decided to keep searching and perhaps pick up another product in case I really didn’t like the Elf cosmetics scrub. It is so hard to choose skincare without using it first and being able to test it out. There are so many factors involved such as skin type, skin concerns, sensitivity and personal preference.

I came across this picture it looked like the other scrub, but this one was a peel without the beads and grains. It looked to me like it had a paste consistency. It also stated that it is to be rinsed off. (Some peels have to be pulled off the skin and I didn’t want anything like that) So, I decided to chance it. This product also had great reviews just like the Elf Cosmetics product.

Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel (texture online) and (texture on my hand)

I do love this product but for different reasons than the Elf Scrub. This product is much more of a lotion (not a paste at all). It is quite creamy and smooth. It is so gentle you can leave it on for the 10 minutes, as it recommends on the package, and I feel nothing. No heat, no tingling. My face is a bit pinker after I remove it, but not red or irritated at all. The Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel reminds me of a gel mask that is used at the spa.

These two products are totally different from each other. Not only in price but in consistency, texture, weight and exfoliation properties. This second product is from Elemis. It is their Papaya Enzyme Peel.

The price difference is huge, The Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel is $45.00 for 1.6 oz. To get the same amount of product that is in the Elf product, it would be around $140.00. No matter the price difference, I am still going to continue purchasing this product because I like the results. I also like how it exfoliates the skin but the face is still hydrated.

Even though I ended up with two very different products, I was happy for my skin. The description of both products stated they exfoliate, and they do. Just in different ways. This just shows that buying online, can be an adventure. It turned out well in this case, but it easily could have gone the other way.

Reviews

Reviews are essential in purchasing these products on-line, but as we all know there are misleading people out there. I have found the rating system on the Ulta website to be reliable and the reviews there as well.

So when purchasing online it is best to look at several different images of the products and a couple of sites for reviews. Happy shopping!
