I read how mineral makeup can reduce the appearance of aging skin. That most foundations tend to sink in to fine lines and cervices over the course of the day, making the fine lines stand out more on your face. Mineral makeup, however, it supposed to diffused the appearance of those fine lines and cervices and add a dewiness to your skin.
Mineral makeup is also not full of chemicals, preservatives or artificial scents. It is suppose to let the skin breathe. Therefore, not clogging pores or allowing for negative reactions.
Mineral makeup is also supposed to provide your skin with good coverage from the mineral pigments. It is supposed to nourish the skin so your skin looks better with or without make up on.
Now, I had use mineral makeup before and I couldn’t remember it being so memoriable, but it was a long time ago. My skin had changed and so had my hormones. I decided to give mineral makeup a try again.
Brand – BareMinerals
I decided to try a couple of BareMinerals’ products. This brand is quite popular in the mineral makeup category. BareMinerals’ products don’t contain “parabens, binders, fillers, phthalates, fragrance, chemical sunscreens, sodium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, triclosan, formaldehyde, talc or gluten”. Their products are also not tested on animals.
BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I decided to try this one first, because it had won an Allure award, so why not? I purchase wheat 4.5, the color match was good. Now, you have to shake up this tinted moisturizer before you squeeze it out or you just get a watery substances instead of the tint.
I was surprised that it had more coverage than I could remember from mineral makeup. But to get that coverage I had to apply it with my fingers as it suggests on the product. Then use the brush to blend it in and yes, it needs blending in. I did need to powder over it because it is extremely hydrating and I have combination skin. I can’t even image on oily skin.
It didn’t sink into fine lines and it wore pretty good. My T-zone needed some help by 4 hours in, so that wasn’t my favorite. But it wasn’t uneven or patchy. It had just kind of faded in those areas. I think really dry skin would love this product.
At Ulta BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is $32.00 for 1.18 oz. It comes in a squeeze tube, so you don’t have to worry about getting it all. (When you are at the end, you can just cut off the end of the tube and use the rest).
BareMinerals ORIGINAL Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15
I decided to try this one as well and see if it was better in my T-zone, after all it has all of the same qualities as other BareMineral products.
It did do better with not fading in my T-zone area and didn’t look as dewy in this area as well. I did find that I had to use quite a bit of it to get the coverage in my T-Zone that I wanted though. I didn’t have to reapply but the product sells for $31.00 for .28oz at Ulta . That is pretty pricey in my book for the amount I needed to use. Although I did like the product, I went in search of something mineral with a great price point, good coverage and didn’t fade in my T-Zone area.
Nyx Mineral Stick Foundation
Nyx Mineral Stick Foundation sold for $10.00 for .21 oz, which is still kind of pricey when you compared it to some foundations. That makes the price point over $40.00 for the traditional 1oz foundation. However, mineral foundations do provide extra benefits to the skin as well.
Nyx Mineral Stick Foundation comes in a stick format so it is super easy to apply and I found I didn’t need much. But in order to get all of the product, when I got to a certain point, I had to de-pot it and transfer to another container. That didn’t even bother me because the coverage was so beautiful.
I got so many complements when I wore it. It wore beautifully, no T-zone touch ups. It didn’t go into find lines and face still looked hydrated and not dry.
This foundation stick made several list for the best new stick foundation of 2018 and it looked like I had discovered a gold mine. Then Nyx decided to discontinue this foundation. I have contacted them about the possibility of them doing another mineral foundation. They don’t know if they are going to do one or not. I hope so, it was an amazing cream foundation.
So for now, I will finish up with my BareMinerals, because it really does hydrate the skin and it is summer. For the summer I like a light, hydrating tinted moisturizer.
