The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%

A work horse ingredient that has been proven to work on many skin conditions, general aging, sun damage and more. It really should be an ingredient in any skin care routine.

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. It also goes by niacin because both are essentially the same nutrient. It is used in oral supplements for the benefits it has on the body. However, it has also been studied, for all of the benefits it has for skin care as well.

Melasma and uneven skin tone

In a Double blind study , it showed that it worked better than hydroquine and with little to no side effects. The study is pretty long, but the pictures included in this study, don’t lie. It does a remarkable job in the pigmentation and uneven skin tone. That alone should convince you to add a product with niacinamide into your routine. But there is more.

There is another study on uneven skin tone, conducted on patients’ arm pits. The hyperpigmentation in this area is very resistant. The study showed great improvement and collagen building in the skin, even in this area.

Anti Aging

There is also a study that showed Niacinamide along with peptides, Retinyl cream/moisturizer with sun screen has the same effects after 8 weeks as using Tretinoin (aka Retin-A) .02% without all of the irritation on the skin.

It has also been proven to help with acne in studies as well. In this study, Niacinamide 4% gel was compared with Clindamycin 1% gel and Niacinamide was found to be more effective on oily skin types.

It also alleviates the symptoms of rosacea and the irritations from rosacea. In this study, Niacinamide showed great improvement on rosacea patients and improved barrier function in the skin.

This ingredient has proven itself to be an amazing ingredient in skin care. It isn’t talked about as much as it should be for all that it can do. It isn’t an expensive ingredient either and you can find this ingredient in some great skin care products for reasonable cost.

It can be found in quite a few products from the CeraVe Line, AM and PM Moisturizing Lotion.

I like it in the CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum. It has Niacinamide, Retinol and ceramides, which are all great ingredients for the skin as well. However, it isn’t a serum it is a cream. A light cream, but still a cream. It has a slight yellow color (because it contains a form of retinol) and it is fully sealed packaging with a air pump. That is why it is my pick, no air, light or bacteria to get into the product.

It is $10.19 at Target for 1 oz and it is $18.49 at Ulta for 1 oz. You can always use your Ulta coupon for $3.00 off a purchase of $15.00 to bring the price down. There are also a lot of drugstores that carry the CeraVe Line as well.

The Ordinary

Niacinamide can be found in The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% for $5.90 for 1oz. That is a steal. You can purchase it on the Deceim website or Sephora or where ever they sell The Ordinary line. At this price point, get it and mix it with whatever cream you like or put it on before you put on your favorite lotion.

Olay brand lotions/creams have long been a favorite for generations. They have recently changed things up with their Olay Regenerist Whip line. This line of creams contain Niacinamide and a peptide complex. You can also choose from fragrance-free or an added sunscreen. So, I think that makes it a great line for everyone to get what they want and still get some great ingredients.

I am sure you can get this at a variety of drugstore locations. It is at Target for $28.99 for 1.7 oz and Ulta for $39.99 for 1.7 oz. Not a bad price either.
