Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub
Whoa! That is a long name. I read that name, when I went to purchase and thought, what all does this have in it? However, the ingredient list isn’t that bad or too long, as ingredient lists go. It has jojoba Esters, charcoal powder, menthol and other normal ingredients found in beauty products. Charcoal and Jojoba, do most of the work in the product.
Jojoba has vitamins B, C and E and minerals, copper and zinc. Copper is known for it regenerative abilities and zinc has been used as a dandruff remedy for years. A recent study, found that peppermint oil (main component Menthol) and jojoba oil do indeed promote hair growth. However, this isn’t going to remain on your scalp long enough to do a lot for hair growth and it wasn’t a significant amount of growth in the study, either. So, this ingredient is mainly use for nourishing the scalp and removing some build up on the scalp. All good things.
Charcoal acts like a magnet to attract and absorb a lot of materials or elements, which is why it is used in so many products or recipes. In this product, it is used to attract oil, dirt and dead skin cells. It does a great job.
To DYI or not to DYI
Yes, you can make a DYI recipe for a scalp scrub, but this is convenient. You don’t have to mix charcoal with anything and that can be really messy. This doesn’t have much fragrance to irritate. It is PH balanced, so you don’t have to worry about doing that on your own. The Jojoba esters or wax bead can be kind of expensive to buy in bulk. This product has a great price point.
The scrub is 8.99 for 10.0 oz on the Ulta website and you can find the brand in Walmart, Walgreens and CVS to name a few. Target doesn’t carry the scrub, but they do have the masque for $3.50 for 1.75 fl oz. I haven’t tried the masque yet so I can’t say anything about that product. However, it is does look interesting so I might have to do that soon.
How to use it
Just apply it directly to the scalp and start rubbing it around. Then rinse it out and shampoo as usual.
As you can tell, I do like this product. Is it going to do miracles for your scalp? No. Is it going to rinse out really easily if you have thick hair? Probably not. You are going to have to put some effort into that process.
I don’t have thick hair and getting thinner, as I age, so it rinses out easily if your hair is more like mine.
What is does do, is a decent job at cleansing your scalp and removing build up without irritation at a great price point.
